Mommy and Me Yoga

When we were both still pregnant, we made a promise that we would meet once a week while were on maternity leave to just get out of the house. Even though there is so much joy in those first weeks, we both also recognized that the first time around, it could be incredibly lonely. But this time we had each other and that meant that we could help each other through this time that only mamas understand.

So last week, we made our first venture out to the mall, because as two admitted shopping addicts, this was the logical place to start our maiden voyages out into the great beyond (and not just the standard meandering Target run). Armed with this initial success (and a few new items of clothing) we decided we were up for a bigger challenge. Enter once again Prenatal Fit and their adorable offerings of mommy and me classes. We had previously found sanctuary here during our pregnancies and knew that post-natal would be no different (Check out our original post here).

Yoga was our first choice because we are still easing back into that workout thing and I have to say it was just what we needed. Adina, the owner, led the class taking extra time to make sure she knew everyone’s names which immediately made it feel like a community instead of just a workout class and as a new mommy the value of community is not lost on me–especially this second time around. I left class feeling like I had 8 new mommy friends that understood everything I was going through, a kind of unspoken trust and openness that keeps new moms from the brink of insanity.

After class we even managed to squeeze in a lunch while the little ones slept (or mostly slept). And I having this experience to share with MB this second time around has made our friendship even stronger than it was before. We are both much more at ease in our mommyhood knowing that we get to share it with our best friend!

Since this little one already weighs 12 pounds, I actually did get quite a workout lifting him and it was fun at the same time to get him in on the act.
