Fall Shoes for the Whole Family

I know everyone’s manicured toes are doing open-air wiggles in flip flops right now, but it is time to start thinking about fall shoes.  Before we know it, it’ll be time to reign in our piggies in all kinds of leather and suede adorableness.  I don’t know about you, but I’m really hard on my shoes, so I pretty much have to restock my shoe wardrobe every fall.  And you know kids…their little feet have probably grown three sizes since last year, so they need an update as well.  So we’re outlining the shoe must-haves that need to be in your closet for fall:

For You:

Why you need them: Because you can wear them with just about any outfit you can put together-work, play, date, weekend- there is a pair out there for every occasion.

How to wear them: Booties are perfect for fall as a transition piece from sandals once it starts to get a little cooler, so I pair them with all my skirts and dresses without tights. Then, once it gets cooler, I like to mix in a patterned tight and the bootie is a perfect way to show these off. They also are great for dressing up a pair of jeans and a blouse and are more comfortable in my opinion than your heels.

I’m in love with these 1 State crossover slide bootie. They are super versatile for the fall to pair with skirts as well as jeans and the stacked heel makes them incredibly comfortable for work.

I usually opt for flat booties for school, but these grommet-detailed gray BP booties are perfect because of the stacked heel once again. They are already my faves for fall!

Why you need them:  Because we’re in our 30’s now, not our 20’s, so let’s just admit we want to be comfortable at work.

How to wear them: It’s no secret that I love flats.  I love them with joggers, with ankle-length trousers, with skinny jeans, with boyfriend jeans.  And retailers have figured out that it’s not just the elderly with bunions and corns investing in this comfort trend, because flats have gotten super cute.  This fall, look for metallics, suede, ankle straps, and loafer styles.

Why you need them: I fell in love with sneakers last season big time (see my sneaker attack here), but I’ve always been a dress for comfort girl at heart. The best part about buying sneakers now-a-days is that they come in so many fun designs and patterns and really can be your best friend as a mom on the go.

How to wear them: You can pair them with your basic jeans and a t-shirt, or dress it up a bit with a a-line dress or blazer (see below).  Sneakers are no longer just for casual Friday.

Statement Pattern:

Why you need them: Because that whole “pop of color” thing is legit.  And sometimes you don’t want to think about your “pop” when you have a million things on your mind.  But having a statement shoe in your back pocket makes it easy to look like your solid-shirt-and-jeans combo or your tried and true black-on-black evening look are all curated specifically to highlight a hot shoe trend.

How to wear them: You could totally be brave and mix patterns (see our advice for how to do that here) ) Or, if you don’t want to have to think about pattern pairing, stick with solids and neutrals so that they eye is drawn downward towards the fabulous shoes.

I buy Halogen flats every fall at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. These are from last year, but see this season’s version here. Jeans-old, similar here // t-shirt-Target

And don’t forget about the littles:
Call me a monster, but I don’t love most gym shoes on toddlers.  I do, however, love a shoe that gives them support as they run at break-neck speed.  For day-to-day wear, I always go to See Kai Run.  They’re pricey, but the ankle support is great and the shoes are really cute. On the weekend, I like to snazz things up a little bit, so we typically go with a classic Converse to elevate our little man’s style.

We love moccasins on babies for several reasons.  1. They’re cute.  2. Strangers like to touch babies, which I don’t love, particularly their hands and feet.  I feel better about Random Old Lady in Grocery Store touching my angel’s feet if they’re covered. In our recent scourge of Etsy baby shops, we came across EppyLittle.  She has other things on the site, but the moccasins and baby booties are the cutest.  The inside of the baby booties is super soft, and the leather on the moccasins is great quality.
